Maintaining and improving your home

We believe in keeping your home in good condition, not just now but for the long term. Whether it’s regular checks or bigger adaptations, we’re here to ensure your home remains safe, secure and comfortable.

Planned redecoration

We aim to redecorate the exterior and communal areas of your building every five to seven years, depending on their condition. The work is done to keep the building in good condition, maintain the value of your home, and keep repairs to a minimum.

Other external areas in the maintenance cycle include windows, front doors, internal communal walls, doors, ceilings, gates, fencing and external walls. We'll write to let you know if any major external decoration is taking place on homes in your area.

Planned replacements

We want to support you to ensure your home stays warm, safe and energy-efficient. We’ll make necessary upgrades like replacing windows, doors, kitchens and bathrooms, when they come to the end of their lifespan. We’ll always let you know when upgrades are planned.

Regular gas and electrical checks

Every five years, we carry out electrical inspections to check the wiring and fuse boards, keeping your home safe and compliant with regulations. If you have a gas or oil boiler, our safety engineers carry out an inspection every year, to keep your home safe and compliant with regulations.

Home improvement surveys

Every five years we undertake a home improvement survey of our rented homes and communal areas. This means that we do a visual check of the fixtures and fittings inside and outside your home to make sure it is safe and secure for you and your family to live in.

The results help us understand the current condition of your home and help us plan for when we need to repair, replace, or improve items in your home.

Aids and adaptations

At some point you, or someone in your household, may need adaptations made to your home to make it more suitable to your requirements.

If you rent or lease a home from us (either fully or through shared ownership) we’ll help by working with you, your local authority and other relevant organisations so that a housing adaptations service is available to you where appropriate.

Want to make your own improvements?

Your home is yours to make your own, and we want to support you in improving it. You can decorate your home to your style and taste – we want your home to be a place you enjoy living in.

If you want to make any structural changes that involve walls, windows or doors, please contact us to get permission. We’ll provide guidance on what you can do, how to find a reputable contractor and all the necessary steps you’ll need to take.
