You can end your tenancy by giving us written notice, or someone who has legal authority to end your tenancy on your behalf can do this. If you have a joint tenancy, one joint tenant can end the tenancy on behalf of themselves and you.

The amount of notice you’ll need to give will be set out in your tenancy agreement.

Your tenancy gives you the right to exchange your home with a tenant from another social rented home who also wants to move. This can be in any area you choose. In order to do so you have to meet certain criteria.

In June 2022, the Government announced an intention to extend the Right to Buy to housing association tenants. However, the scheme has not been implemented, and there is currently no confirmed timetable, eligibility criteria, or further guidance from the Government.

Until further details are provided, we are unable to advise customers on whether the scheme will proceed or how it may operate. We will publish updates on our website if and when further information becomes available.

Some Moat customers, particularly those who previously rented from their council (and were living in their home when it transferred from the council to Moat), may already have the Preserved Right to Buy (RTB). Alternatively they may be eligible for the Right to Acquire (RTA) scheme.
