Home improvement surveys

Every five years we need to survey your home to help us understand its current condition and help us plan for when we need to repair, replace, or improve items.

  • What is a home improvement survey?

  • Every five years we need to undertake a home improvement survey (or stock condition survey as they are also known) of our rented homes and communal areas. This means that we do a visual check of the fixtures and fittings inside and outside your home to make sure it is safe and secure for you and your family to live in.

Surveys can take place either with a surveyor coming to your home in person, or remotely via a video call.

Remote surveys

As an alternative to an in-person visit, we are trialling completing this survey through your smartphone or tablet.

This means you can:

  • Choose a time that works around your schedule.
  • Complete the process more quickly and easily.
  • Help us improve this new service for all residents.

If you're interested in taking part in this trial, spaces are limited, so please let us know as soon as possible or you can confirm you'd prefer an in-person survey.

What happens with the results

  • Home improvement surveys are vital because the information gathered during the survey helps us plan necessary repairs and improvements for your home, and plan future replacement programmes for things like windows, doors, kitchens, and bathrooms.

  • It highlights areas where we could do better to keep your home safe and warm and ultimately more cost effective for you. Additionally, the survey can help us to understand any building and fire safety issues and also help us plan long-term investment to improve our homes in the future.

  • Prize draw

When we have completed your home improvements survey you will be entered into a prize draw for that month and could win a £100 e-voucher.

  • Please help us to keep your home safe and a comfortable place to live for you and your family by being available for appointments and letting us carry out these surveys.

  • Please note that the surveyors are only there to do the survey, so if you have any repairs, please report these to us by telephone, email or by your MyMoat account.
