About us

We are a leading housing association, owning and managing over 23,000 homes in the South East.

  • Since Moat was founded in 1966, we’ve grown from managing a single block of flats in Chertsey to housing over 23,000 families and individuals across Kent, Essex, Sussex and London. Through the decades, our purpose has stayed the same – to provide secure, affordable homes for rent and shared ownership to those in housing need.

Our customers lie at the heart of it all. We work with them to provide a strong and consistent service, all shaped by feedback from surveys, focus groups and our pool of Customer Advocates.

Great homes and communities

As a not-for-profit organisation, we reinvest any surplus income we make into maintaining and improving our existing homes and building new ones where they are most needed. Our long development history is an important part of our DNA, and we’re proud of the great homes and communities we’ve helped build, with thousands more in the pipeline.

Providing homes is at the core of what we do, but they’re more than just bricks and mortar. We partner with local authorities to put roofs over the heads of those who might not otherwise have one.

Pollards Community Partnership

Through Moat Foundation, we work in our communities to improve employability, empower local youth, tackle isolation, and create thriving places that people love to live in. We provide support for over 55s in our retirement housing, alongside supported housing for people with learning and physical disabilities and those who are homeless or fleeing domestic abuse.

As one of the pioneers of shared ownership, we’ve given thousands of households a boost into home ownership. Sustainability plays a big role in our work as we make sure our new and existing homes are greener, more energy-efficient, and fit for a net-zero carbon future.

Celebrating 60 years

In April 1966, our journey started with a single block of flats in Chertsey. We understood then that a safe, secure, low-cost home can change the outcome of our customers’ lives. Sixty years on, our purpose still drives and inspires us as we provide homes for over 23,000 people and families.

Many of our customers have told us how their home has helped them build a future. We’re capturing their stories throughout our celebrations, as we bring our history to life.

  • What is a housing association?

We are a not-for-profit organisation which means every penny we make goes back into our services and your homes. We don’t make profits for shareholders – instead, we reinvest any surplus into providing affordable homes, investing in our existing homes and supporting our communities.

  • What we do

We're one of the top 30 housing associations in the UK with 23,000 homes spread across south east London, Kent, Essex and Sussex. For the last sixty years we have sought to help those in housing need. We believe that everyone should have somewhere that they can call home and be really proud of.
