For many of us the festive season is a time for celebration, but it’s also a time to be extra cautious about fire safety. With Christmas trees, lights, candles, and cooking in the mix, it’s so important to take steps to protect yourself, your family, and your home. We've shared some tips to help you all have a safe and merry Christmas.

    Water your real Christmas tree daily - a dry tree is highly flammable.

    Keep your tree away from heat sources like radiators, fireplaces, and candles.

    Check that your Christmas lights have the British Standard safety mark.

    Make sure you keep any decorations and cards well away from heaters, lights and candles.

    Don’t overload electrical sockets and extension leads.

    Switch off and unplug Christmas lights when you leave the house or go to bed.

    Never put mains powered electrical lights on your balcony or terrace.

    Test your smoke alarm and report any faults to us immediately.

    Keep candles, lighters, and matches out of children’s reach.

    Never leave cooking food unattended.

    Avoid using real candles – try flameless ones instead.

    Test your carbon monoxide detector and report any faults to us immediately.
