Stay safe and keep cool during the hot weather
With the hot weather set to continue, it's important to take extra care. High temperatures can be especially challenging for older people, young children, and anyone living with a serious health condition.
Hot weather affects everyone differently, so it's a good idea to know the signs of heat-related illness and how to stay safe. The NHS has practical advice on coping in hot weather here: Heatwave: how to cope in hot weather - NHS.
If your home is feeling too warm, these simple tips from the Energy Saving Trust may help keep it cooler:
- Close windows, curtains and blinds during the hottest part of the day to keep heat out.
- Open windows in the early morning or at night when the air is cooler.
- Use a fan to help circulate air and keep you comfortable.
- Spend time in shaded or cooler rooms where possible.
- Try to limit the use of ovens and other appliances that generate heat.
