Philip and Craig share why they love where they live

“What I like about Moat is that they speak to you honestly. If they’ve got something to tell you, they’ll tell you and that’s it. They’re always willing to help. It doesn’t matter what it is, if they can help you, they’ll help you.” – Philip, Stanhope customer
Meet Philip and Craig – they’ve called their community in Stanhope, Ashford, home for nearly 50 years between them. These long-time Moat residents have put down deep roots at Stanhope and both agree that it isn’t just a place to live – it’s a true community.
You’ll often find Philip and Craig at the Men’s Group at our Community Hub, hosted by our community investment arm, Moat Foundation. Here they’ve found support for health concerns, wellbeing, and help with cost-of-living challenges. The two friends said: “It’s nice because we see each other visually, otherwise we’re just stuck indoors. It gives you different people to talk to.”
Philip and Craig spoke more about the Stanhope community and the difference the Community Hub has made to the kids in the area. Craig explained: “Some people run the kids down, but they’ve held the door for me because I’m on oxygen.” Philip added: “I’ve had them offer to cut my lawn and everything. The Community Hub has helped, 100%.”
The pair spoke about why they love living in Stanhope. Philip said: “What you get here is the people. Noone’s false here, everybody will speak to you. I like people to be straight up with you.”.
Craig reminisced about when he used to organise fishing trips with his friends in the community and said that if he didn’t love where he lived, he wouldn’t have stayed here for 35 years.
