Stanhope customers shine at another fantastic Summer Fair!
This summer, Stanhope residents reminded us just how powerful community can be by hosting their own Summer Fair!
Stanhope residents brought sunshine and smiles as they took the reins, helping to plan, set up, and run the entire Stanhope Community Summer Fair on Saturday 12 July – and what a day it was!

Over the course of the afternoon, more than 130 people came along to enjoy everything on offer—from basketball and skateboarding to drumming, arts and crafts, darts, painting, and toddler-friendly games. Kids were thrilled with glitter tattoos, while grown-ups grabbed tasty Subway-style baguettes (thanks to a local café run by one of our residents we supported back in work!). And of course, our ice cream and fruit stall was a huge hit under the summer sun.
Due to the heat, we sadly had to cancel our much-anticipated dog show—but that didn’t stop a few four-legged friends from dropping by for a cuddle! Some of the kids even beat them to the doggy paddling pool to cool off—now that’s summer fun.

A celebration of community spirit
Two hours before the Fair began, families, young people, and local volunteers were already at the Hub—raising gazebos, setting up tables, and adding those final festive touches like bunting and signs. By midday, the sun was out, our partner stalls were in place, and the fair was in full swing!

Better together: making an impact through partnerships
Throughout the year, Moat Foundation been working hard to build meaningful partnerships that bring even more value to our community—and the Fair was a great showcase of that.
The NHS and One-You Kent team joined us to offer free health checks and lifestyle advice—14 adults took part on the day! Meanwhile, our brilliant family counselling partners hosted a colouring stall, creating a gentle, welcoming space for young people to chat about mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Supporting the next generation
We were especially proud to hear that six local young people, who first picked up a basketball at one of Moat Foundation's holiday clubs, have now joined a school team—and even won a local tournament.
We also welcomed Sk8side, a much-loved local youth charity, for one final community event before they sadly close their doors. They spent the day connecting with some of our young people not currently in school or work, offering support and encouragement for what comes next.

The afternoon wrapped up with a vibrant drumming session from Ashford Community Drumming Band, followed by amazing acrobatics from Simia Circus. The flips, tumbles and energy were a perfect finale to a day full of joy.
Felicity, Moat Foundation Officer said: “You can really see the joy customers get out of leading on events like this, and there was a real sense of pride in what they had achieved.”
Not only does customer-led events empower residents to get involved and make an impact in their community, but the events themselves create more opportunities for customers to come together, socialise, and improve their wellbeing.
A big thank you to all our customers, residents, colleagues, and partners who supported and attended this fantastic event. Here’s to many more days like this!
