OWLS community garden at Washington Close continues to grow
On Wednesday 26 March, Moat Foundation was delighted to organise a Community Investment team day on formerly overlooked land behind one of our retirement living schemes, Washington Close, in Maldon, Essex.
The day was all about working alongside the Heybridge and Maldon Climate Action Group (HMCAP) to further improve the OWLS (Our Wild Living Space) community garden. In just a year the group have taken on a growing number of volunteers and transformed the space.
Working in beautiful sunny weather, many colleagues, customers, and local volunteers were able to further improve the garden space and complete numerous tasks including:
- Building and filling an accessible-height herb and apothecary bed.
- Clearing nettles and weeding pathways.
- Moving compost and mulching beds.
- Fixing bird boxes.
- Clearing areas for future planting.
Whilst working on the OWLS community space, we were also able to support residents with their own landscaping and planting. The team came together to share their appreciation for wildlife and green spaces whilst getting to know each other better.
