New Pension Credit regulations came into effect on 22 August 2024, where people aged 66 or over can claim up to £300 in Winter Fuel Payments, but only if they receive the applicable benefits.
To be eligible, you must have reached State Pension age (66 or over) before the end of the 2024 qualifying week (16-22 September) and currently receive one of the below:
Individuals aged 80 years or older can claim a Winter Fuel Payment of £300, and those aged 66-79 can claim £200. This new regulation also benefits people who have a weekly income of less than £218.15 (individual) or £332.95 (couples).
If eligible, you don’t have to do anything extra to backdate your claim, and if you complete your application online, you’ll automatically be asked if you’d like to backdate it.
The final date for making a backdated claim for Pension Credit is 21 December, assuming you’ve met the Pension Credit entitlement conditions in the previous three months.
