We're delighted to announce Helen Evans as the new Chair of our Board

We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Helen Evans as the new Chair of Moat’s Board, beginning in September 2025. Helen succeeds Steve White, who will be stepping down after an incredible nine years of dedicated leadership.

Under Steve’s guidance, Moat has grown in both strength and purpose - sharpening its strategic direction, enhancing services, and deepening its commitment to delivering high-quality, affordable homes. His unwavering dedication has laid the groundwork for our next chapter.

Helen brings more than four decades of experience in social housing, local government, and the broader public sector. A highly respected executive and non-executive leader, she is known for her strategic vision, people-first leadership, and a strong track record in driving transformation and regulatory compliance.

In addition to joining Moat, Helen currently serves on the boards of Paradigm Housing Group, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and Connected London Living. Her unique combination of housing and health expertise, alongside her deep understanding of governance and compliance, positions her perfectly to lead Moat into the future.

Gavin Cansfield, Chief Executive of Moat, commented:
"We are thrilled to welcome such an experienced and values-led Chair. Helen’s breadth of expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our services and deliver on our promise to our customers."

He also paid tribute to Steve White’s impact over the years:
"We are incredibly grateful for Steve’s unwavering leadership and commitment over the past nine years. His tireless efforts have laid a strong and enduring foundation for Moat’s future. We thank him sincerely and wish him all the very best in his next chapter."

Reflecting on her appointment, Helen Evans said:
“It’s an honour to step into the role of Chair at Moat and build on the remarkable work Steve and the team have done. I look forward to working closely with the Board, Gavin, and the wider team to support Moat’s mission and make a lasting impact in the communities we serve.”

Outgoing Chair Steve White shared:
"It has been a true privilege to lead an organisation so committed to providing high-quality, affordable homes and exceptional customer service. I am immensely proud of all we have accomplished together. As I hand over to Helen, I do so with full confidence in the strong foundations we’ve laid and the talented people who will carry our vision forward."

We warmly welcome Helen to Moat and look forward to this exciting new chapter in our journey.
