New energy-efficient homes in Herne Bay

We’ll be building 84 affordable homes at Osborne Gardens in Herne Bay where we recently completed on the purchase of the first phase of homes. The site is two miles from Herne Bay town centre, in an area of high housing need.

The new homes will be delivered for us by Kitewood Homes in the first phase of the scheme. Once complete, they’ll provide 68 homes for affordable rent and 16 for shared ownership with a further 180 homes available for private sale. The homes will be a mix of one- and two-bedroom flats and two-, three- and four-bedroom houses.

One of our key priorities is to reduce our environmental impact and build sustainably, so these homes will be delivered using Fabric First principles. This means that specific building materials are selected to ensure the homes are as energy efficient as possible and reduce carbon emissions. The houses will be heated using air source heat pumps and the apartments will be trialling a new solar panel system specifically for flats called ‘SolShare’.  Each home will also have an electric vehicle charging point meaning they will be some of our most sustainable homes to date.

We expect construction to start in February 2024 and we’re looking forward to welcoming people to their new homes in the spring of 2026.
