Fire Safety at Home

There are a staggering 37,000 house fires a year in the UK, the majority of which come from faulty appliances and whilst people are sleeping.

Most house fires are preventable, and there are simple steps you can take to lower the risk and to help prevent a fire:

  1.  Always ensure that your furniture has the fire-resistant permanent label.
  2. Unplug appliances when you’re not using them or when you go to bed.
  3. Check your appliances for any faults, which could include exposed wires or unexpectedly cutting out.
  4. Ensure you have a clear escape route that everyone in the home can use in the event of a fire. The normal route into/out of your home is usually best, but think of a second in case this one is unusable. Keep door and window keys where everyone can find/reach them.
  5. Regularly check your smoke alarm is working. If you're a general needs customer, please report any faults immediately to Moat.
