We’ll be submitting a planning application for a new retirement scheme in Folkestone, following a positive customer consultation.
In January 2019, we demolished a block of flats on Pilgrim Spring, a road in Folkestone near our Holywell House retirement scheme. Since then, we’ve been looking into the best way to use the site. There’s been lots to consider, especially in the current climate, but we think the site would be ideal for a new retirement living scheme.
This new development would likely offer 52 one-bedroom apartments and 10 two-bedroom apartments, along with two communal lounges and a rooftop garden. We have also been in talks with Folkestone Council to relocate a bus stop to the entrance, ensuring accessibility as the scheme is on a hill.
Before our planning application is submitted, we held a customer consultation at Holywell House to share our plans and answer any questions. If the development goes ahead, these customers would be given the first option to relocate so we felt it was important to involve them in the process. The general feedback was very positive, and our customers shared our excitement. They were delighted to hear there would be two lifts in the scheme and space in the kitchen for their own washing machine.
At this early stage, we don’t know whether the development will be granted planning permission and will need to assess the best options for the site. Whatever the outcome, it boasts a beautiful location with fantastic views over Folkestone, and will make a great home for its new residents.
