Moat welcomed residents and their families to the opening of the newly refurbished lounge at Merbury Close, our Lewisham-based retirement living scheme.
The space was brought to life as we celebrated the launch with a Christmas buffet, festive music, arts and crafts. The launch was well attended and residents spoke of how pleased they were with the improvements.
The refurbishment has transformed the dated, underused lounge into a fresh, welcoming area that will bring residents together and create a sense of community spirit. The final design incorporated the findings from a resident consultation which explored how the residents wanted to use the space.
Creating thriving communities
Updating the lounge is our first step in delivering the ‘Quality Homes’ strand of our retirement vision, which focuses on creating retirement homes that people want to live in.Our new Retirement Living vision aims to create high-quality communal spaces that will encourage communities to come together and thrive. We aspire to deliver more refurbishment projects like this in the coming months and years. In the next 12 months, we will also be working closely with Age UK and other specialist and charitable organisations to engage with our residents to celebrate older age and tackle social isolation.
Anne-Britt Karunaratne, Moat’s Executive Director of Housing & Customer Services, said: “Refreshing the Merbury Close lounge is a simple step that we hope will have a huge impact on the wellbeing of our older residents. Great spaces can make them feel connected, empowered and engaged, and create a place that truly feels like home.”
