International Day of Older Persons takes place on Monday 1 October.
Every year we support thousands of older residents in more than 1,600 retirement living homes to help them live a more fulfilled and independent life. Having seen first-hand the difficulties residents were facing in one of our retirement living homes based in a split level, two-storey building with no lift, our Estate Manager, Lorraine arranged for a stairlift to be installed and for an unused first floor room to be turned into a communal lounge. This has transformed residents’ lives, making it easier for them to not only get around but enjoy important communal areas which offer a distraction from day-to-day life and friendship too.
87-year-old June told us: “I am very happy living here. The stair lift means that on bad days when I can’t manage the stairs, I can still get around, particularly into the garden which I love. I think the communal room is wonderful too.”
We also offer health and wellbeing opportunities to older residents including dementia awareness and falls prevention.
