Investing in the communities we work in is an important part of our business.
Our charitable arm, Moat Foundation, works with our communities to support residents who face the challenges of ill health, disability, financial hardship or age. Our commitment to this spirit also extends to fundraising activities, and as part of this work we raised almost £70,000 to mark our 50th year in 2016 and this was shared among five charities. This year, for the first time, we have chosen a Charity of the Year - ellenor hospice - and they will receive our dedicated backing in our aim to raise as much money as we possibly can during the next year.
Based in the heart of one our local communities in Gravesend and just a few miles from our head offices, ellenor is the only charity in Kent that provides hospice care and support for patients of all ages facing terminal illness and their families. 90% of the specialist care and support is provided to patients in the comfort of their own home. The majority of their income comes from voluntary donations, individuals, groups and schools; it costs nearly £7m a year just to maintain the current service. The charity offers a broad range of services, including, outreach work, a day centre, holistic therapies, and much more; for patients and their families alike.
We launched our fund raising on 14 June 2019 with a quiz and a pizza, and are busily planning our activities for the coming months. These include a football match between Moat and Southern Housing, a car wash, raffles and more so watch this space!
We're enormously excited about the challenge and looking forward to taking part in the activities and to raising the maximum amount for this very worth cause.
