Social Homebuy

Introduced by the Government, Social HomeBuy is a new, low cost home ownership scheme which is currently available to all Moat tenants.

This is a flexible scheme, that allows you to buy your current home either outright or on shared ownership (part buy, part rent) basis. Depending on how much you can afford, you can purchase as little as 25%; you will then pay rent on the part of the share you do not own.

Discounts for this scheme are fixed by the Government. The discounts currently range from £9,000 to £16,000, and are dependent on the area that you live in.

To be eligible for this scheme, you must be a tenant living in one of our homes. You must have spent a total of five years as a public sector tenant, if your first public sector tenancy was created on or after 18 January 2005. For tenancies that were created prior to this date, you would need to have spent at least two years as a public sector tenant.  Additionally, you cannot have broken your tenancy agreement in the last two years, and your rent account must be up to date.

For more information on the Social HomeBuy scheme, please see our leaflet.

If you would like to apply for the Social HomeBuy scheme, you can download the application form here.  When completing the application, it is important that you answer all questions fully and accurately.   You will also need to complete and sign an Insolvency Declaration Form for everyone applying for the scheme.  You will need to send the completed forms to the Home Ownership Team at our central office in Dartford.

Alternatively, you can contact a member of the Home Ownership Team, by telephone on 0845 359 6161, or email mhoadmin@moat.co.uk.

Your home is at risk if you do not keep up rent and mortgage repayments or payments on other loans secured on it.

Please note that the value of properties can go down as well as up.
