Moat design
Moat’s new homes are designed to support a high quality of life. The homes we build are attractive, functional and well-built. We respond to the range of our residents’ needs and lifestyles through providing a range of housing options and through design features which allow many homes to be adapted to changing family circumstances. We set challenging environmental standards, both to reduce the running costs of our residents and to minimise the impact of our new homes on the environment.
Moat’s high design standards extend beyond individual homes, to the wider neighbourhood. We create places where people can feel safe, be proud to live and which have a strong and distinctive local identity.
Moat’s Design Guide sets out our design aspirations for our colleagues and partners. It sets a benchmark for the design quality of Moat projects and outlines the general principles we follow to ensure the excellence of future homes and neighbourhoods.
Moat’s detailed Design Brief illustrates how we seek to realise these principles in the design of our new homes. It is a practical guide for our staff and partner architects with prompts and reminders all key aspects of domestic design.
We recognise the importance of modern methods of construction and of sustainable technologies in responding to the housebuilding challenges of the 21st Century. We therefore avoid model solutions and focus on clear guidance on the outputs we expect from new homes.
We aim to deliver fundamental improvements to the quality of people's lives. We want people to aspire to live in a Moat home. Good design is fundamental to our vision: design of the homes themselves and of the environment in which they sit.
In 2008 we launched the first Moat Design Awards to identify and celebrate the best of our new homes. Albertine Street in Harlow wone the best development of the year award.
