Record year for Moat

Paul Hackett, Moat’s executive director: development and new business

Moat enjoyed a record year of growth in 2007/08, increasing homes in management by more than 20% to over 18,000 properties.

Overall, the homes we manage rose by 3,000 properties, including building and selling our first homes for outright sale.

Further highlights from 2007/08 included:

• Over 700 new homes completed against a target of 569
• 910 homes started against a target of 704
• Nearly 800 more households helped into affordable home ownership
• Taking up over 100% of our Housing Corporation allocations and spend
• Bringing Bourne Housing Society into the Moat group
• Starting our 30 year PFI contract at Stanhope, in the Ashford Growth Area
• Winning our first cross-tenure facilities management contract at One Brighton

Paul Hackett, Moat’s executive director: development and new business, says: “We are brimming with confidence after an exceptional year. We’ve worked hard to try to maximise our ability to meet more housing needs in London and the South East, where demand for affordable housing is so high.

“The good news is that we do not see this as a one-off. We have a strong financial position and the capacity to keep on developing large numbers of new affordable homes every year. We have another 1,000 new homes already in the pipeline and we are still very much in the market for new regeneration opportunities.

“Despite the change in housing and lending market conditions, Moat is in an exceptional position to deliver new homes and sustainable communities for the future, in close partnership with local authorities and other strategic allies.”
