Moat acts as lead developer on six new sites

Over 125 new affordable homes are being created in London over the next year through Moat’s willingness to act as the lead developer on sites. Four of the six schemes will be rated EcoHomes ‘Excellent’, bringing extra energy efficiency benefits for residents.

Paul Hackett, Moat’s executive director: development and new business, says: “By buying the land and taking the lead ourselves, we have far greater control over cost, design, density and quality. Our local authority partners gain from higher proportions of affordable housing and the residents gain from high quality living environments. Great design is crucial to sustainability over the long term and all of these six sites fit brilliantly into their local areas.”

Four of the new developments are in Croydon, with one each in Lewisham and Greenwich. All but one of the schemes will also regenerate derelict sites or poor quality housing and improve the attractiveness of their localities.

“Lead development is now an important strand of our work,” Paul Hackett says. “We are continuing to look for sites where we feel we can really add value for new residents and local partners in meeting housing need and where we can enhance the street scene.”
