300 more affordable homes for the Thames Gateway
We are continuing to provide large volumes of new affordable housing in our key areas of growth, despite the effects of the credit crunch.
On three large developments in the Thames Gateway alone, Moat is delivering nearly 300 more homes for affordable rent and shared ownership for local people. Working with our private developer partners, we are developing 169 homes at Waterstone Park in Dartford (pictured above), 101 at Sovereign Quarter in Gillingham and a further 25 at Cuxton, near Strood. In total, these mixed tenure developments will produce over 1,300 new homes.
Moat’s development director for the south region, Sally Rice, says: “This market presents good opportunities for financially strong housing associations like Moat to acquire or develop more affordable homes. It’s vital we maintain a good supply of affordable homes, despite what is happening in the housing market. More people are turning to the social housing sector as their finances worsen and we need to respond. Moat is not going to take undue risks, but we are going to do our bit to keep supply levels up.”
