The Packer Prize

Viv Packer

The Packer Prize recognises the enormous contribution made by Viv Packer while she was Chairman of Moat over a period of 19 years. Viv joined Moat's Board in 1983 and retired in 2007.

The Prize is a financial grant awarded annually to Moat staff or to Moat residents, alternativing each year between these two groups. It may be awarded to an individual, or to a team, or to any number of people making a collective application. One application is awarded each year, and the winners receive a sum of money towards their professional or self-development, with positive outcomes for Moat.

In 2008, when the Packer Prize was awarded for the first time, the amount was £3,000. The winners were Marilyn DiCara, Stephen Walker and Karyn Young. This team from Moat's New Business directorate, travelled to Tanzania in October 2009. Their challenge started with a tough climb of Mount Meru (4,566m/14,980ft) in Arusha National Park, followed by a week's challenge helping to build a primary school in the remote village of Choba.
